The holocaust was a terrible tragedy that struck during World War 2 with Hitler and his Nazi followers. Hitler wished to exterminate the Jews because he felt that Jews were the reason that Germany lost World War 1. The Jews were seen as an evil race to the German’s. The Jews were sent to camps to either work or die, both would happen eventually in these camps, individuals were lucky to survive the camps and Hitlers rath. The topic of death in concentration camps helps outline the severity of how terrible the living conditions of the camps were. The conditions were not to standard for living many people would starve to death getting if lucky a peice of bread for the whole day. The conditions were so horrible that those imprisoned in the concentration camps would commit suicide due to the emotional and physical strain on the mind and body. The fact there was an estimated 20,000 concentration camps with all these terrible living condition was shocking knowing that there were so much torture and death. The 20,000 camps really becomes a shocker when the statistics are discovered, such as at Auschwitz there was a total of 1,500,000 killed and tortured to death along with those that committed suicide. The pictures on the website display some individuals that would throw themselves onto the fences to electrocute themselves, because the treatment was so brutal. The Holocaust is a topic to research that brings so much realization to the individual. The genocide of the Jews and other prisoners was possibly the worst in history. Hitlers hate for the Jews seemed to be such of a stupid idea, believing that the Jews were the reason that Germany lost WW1. The idea that one could be distinguished by being a jew was not the smartest idea, because on this world we all are the same. The movie Boy In The Stripe Pajamas helps describe this situation a little better. For example, in the movie a little boy befriended a Jew kid they both were 8 and the free little boy’s father was a German soldier highly ranked that supported the extermination of the Jews. Well the free little boy went into the camp along with the Jew kid to help him find his father and while in the camp the boys along with many other Jews were put into a gas chamber. The meaning of the movie shows great irony in that the Father that was the German soldier had his own child die for what he supported onto the Jews. The movie was depicting that there really was no way to distinguish a person whether they could be a Jew or whether they were German. Researching the topic and exploring all the primary and secondary sources for evidence was an eye opener which left the question in my mind why would this happen? who in the right mind would do this? and will this happen again? lets hope not.
